The Cajun and Creole cultures are immediately identifiable to Louisiana, and people flock from around the world to experience the one-of a kind cuisine each has to offer. The zydeco and swamp pop music that sprang from predominately Cajun areas is a uniquely Louisiana sound that has captured the hearts of not only natives, but of people worldwide. In the bayous of Louisiana, toward the southernmost parts of the state, you’ll find people who still speak fluent Cajun French and whose accents while speaking English are deeply tinged with the age-old Cajun inflection. In these areas, shrimping, crabbing, and fishing are still a mainstay of the local economy and the fruits of their labor are a central part of the cuisine and of the community itself.
